Memorial Day

>> May 29, 2008

One of my favorite "church" events is our Memorial Day picnic.
This is something I've done with every church I've been a part of for the past 15 years.
This year was no different.
Here are a few pictures I took of my kids this year.
(You can see more of the pictures here.)

Birthday, the garage and summer fun

>> May 27, 2008

Here is a quick update on some of the things we've been up to in the Kane household this past month...
Bruce has a new blog address - again. This one will be the permanent one. And you can actually comment now since it's a blogger address. You can access it here , from the link on the front page of Epic's site, or from the family and friends list on the right.

I finally finished and mailed the birthday invitations.
I'm still working on getting out announcements.
(They will be the same with different information on the inside.)
I just have to get more envelopes.

We used our garage sale money to buy shelving and such so that we can finally have a garage that isn't just a storage unit. Bruce spent the whole day (on the Saturday that was 102) cleaning, organizing, etc. And now we can park in there. Once I finish a couple of more projects that are being stored in the garage, our garage will be in pretty great condition (considering we still have to store Bruce's church office stuff and our piano out there.)

This is how the boys spent the day that Saturday, while Bruce was busily working in the garage...
Merritt told me that evening, "Mom, I'm so glad we have a pool!"
I'm so glad you are so easily appeased!(since our backyard isn't big enough for a REAL pool.)

Then it cooled off nicely last week and we got to fly the kite.
The kids had so much fun!

I hope you are having a GREAT week!!!

Baseball

>>

Well, baseball season is finally over. Merritt loved playing and ended the season with the team's first win on their last game - 11 to 10. And it was a GREAT game. I did manage to get some game pictures. So, here they are...

Catching is his favorite position to play, although he also played outfield, second base and even short stop once.

Playing second base here...

During his last game, Merritt got in a pickle between first and second bases that he beat. I love the look of joy on his face when he made it to base.

5 Little Ducks...

>> May 12, 2008

"Five little ducks went out one day,

Over the hill and far away...

Father duck said,

'Quack, Quack, Quack, Quack'
(da, da, da, da)

But only four little ducks came back.

Four little ducks went out one day..."

She loves this song!
The only part she actually sings is in parenthesis above
and it is more like yelling than singing. But as you can see, she knows the hand motions.

I took these pictures yesterday
as I was enjoying Mother's Day outside with my kids.
After we had fun playing with Molly,
I got my roller blades out, dusted them off
and went for a spin with Merritt.
He got new roller skates on Saturday, which he saved his own money up for.
I had a really nice day.
I hope you, my fellow moms, did too.

Here are the only pictures I got of the boys yesterday (that turned out).
I took them while we were setting up outside for our worship gathering.

He's concentrating so hard - you'd think he actually knew how to play the drums.

One day, he probably will!

Molly is 11 months old!

>> May 6, 2008

I can't believe she is going to be 1 at the end of this month.
It came up on me so quickly.
I realized last week that I had better get busy planning a party.

As for milestones last month...
* She cut 4 teeth

* She doesn't even think about crawling now (unless she wants to get under something that requires her to crawl - like the car, yes I said the car. Yesterday while we were playing outside, she managed to get under the car in the time it took me to get the baseball from the street.)

* She loves The Wiggles (I should have expected it!)

* She has a couple of Leap Frog toys that play music when you push buttons on them. She has figured these out, knows which buttons to push to get the songs she likes and does her best to sing along. She sings and hums A LOT.

* She loves her dolly and any stuffed animal she can get her hands on.
I love how she loves her doll. She hugs it and pats it on the back and drags it around the house.
She does this with stuffed animals too.
(You can't tell me that girls and boys aren't wired differently. My boys have owned stuffed animals since they were babies too. But instead of being objects of affection their stuffed animals have been useful for seeing how high they can throw, or how fast they can swing something around by it's ears or tail. Both of the boys' animals needed repairing before the boys were 2.)

* She is about done with baby food (except for her cereal in the morning).
She has a SERIOUS strawberry fettish.

* She LOVES to be outside, but not in a stroller or someone's arms. She wants to be exploring on her own.

Here are a few recent pictures...

Bruce took these in an attempt to get THE picture for her birthday party invite. (I think we may be doing another photo shoot this week.)

AND here is some video...

Playing ring-a-round-the-rosie with Mia (one of her favorite games with one of her favorite people.)

Of her walking (I took this a few weeks ago, but haven't had the opportunity to get it off the camera and posted until now)...

You're growing up too quickly baby girl!
